Clay is the co-founder of Coal Hill, Inc. a non-profit that creates content and performances for conventions accross the country, he is a co-host of the Coal Hill A/V Club podcast with Stephen Webb and Andy Hicks, and is the co-editor of Why I Geek: An Anthology of Fandom Origin Stories. He has been watching Doctor Who for years, starting with a period of being freaked out by Tom Baker in the 80's. He likes to explore the breadth and depth of the issues related to the show and compare them to historical, sociological and philosophical ideas. He is also a notorious curmudgeon.

Clay is an avid cosplayer and is extremely active in several fandoms in addition to Doctor Who, including serving as co-head organizer of MISTI-Con (a Harry Potter convention), Coal Hill Convention, and The West Wing Weekend.
